Our Refridgerator

My wife and I eat dinners at home often. Five to six nights out of seven. We also eat breakfast at home. So we cook often.

The photo above is of our fridge tonight. We finished eating our left overs last night -- hence the empty middle shelf dedicated to left overs. We ate out tonight after our gym. We will cook tomorrow.

Our refridgerator and freezer combined is 18 cubic feet total size. Our freezer is quite full but the refridgerator is quite empty.

Fresh vegetables, some milk, sauces and condiments, eggs and fruits don't take up a lot of room. We shop weekly from the grocery store.

A rough calculation tells that we are using less then 30% of the 12 cubic feet available. That is around 4 cubic feet. Under-counter refridgerators are around 5 cubic feet.

I am seriously tempted to buy an under-counter refridgerator and another under-counter freezer when this old fridge dies. I just don't see the point in replacing this fridge with something this size. The Atlantic wrote an article about why American refridgerators are so big. It is worth a read.

I am going to watch it closely for the next few years to see if and when it fills up. But I am guessing it won't.

The chances of us putting a large turkey in this fridge are slim to none.
